Have a large diesel motor home running on CNG/Diesel, it seems though that LNG may be the better way to go as there are a large network of stations being built now, very little happening with CNG. What would it take to make my motor home able to use either or LNG, CNG along with diesel, my engine is a Cummins diesel and it runs great on CNG.

I always wondered how a gaseous fuel was used in a diesel, never knew it was as simple as an old school propane injection kit. Propane and cng have like 110 octane rating but it seems to me that they would still pre-ignite (knock) before the diesel is injected but I guess as long as the concentration of gas is low in the air charge it would work. Sweet. Diesels are getting better every year, we'll all be driving them in 15 years. As the truckers say, diesels kick gas!

My company has been using natural gas compressors for a long time so I can definitely vouch for the cheapness of natural gas, but the price of the gas isn't all there is to consider in the cost. The real question is how much would it cost to convert an engine so that it could run off of natural gas? And then, would the savings from the gas offset the price of engine conversion? If not, it wouldn't be worth it.

How far can an 18 wheeler travel on natural gas between fillups? And, what is the weight of the full natural gas tank compared to equal mileage for diesel?

There are many ways to run a diesel cycle engine on CNG. If you run with spark plugs, you lose the higher compression effeciency of the diesel. Because NG will not ignite by compression alone, something is needed get the fire burning. I used to own a couple of large 50 year old generator sets that were bi-fuel capable. The engines were rated at 2880 hp and were started as a pure diesel. When inlet air temperture reached 165 degrees and the engine was at 50% load, NG was injected into the cylinder from an additional intake valve. At the same time, diesel fuel injection was reduced to 10% "pilot fuel"--the remaining 90% of the fuel was NG. These engines ran very clean compared to diesel but still had (they were 2 cycle) high NOX emissions. Cummins is working very hard with Westport technologies to build a totally NG engine that doesn't use pilot fuel. In the Westport design the gasous fuel injector has a glow plug type tip that will ignite the fuel when it is injected into the cylinder. It works 03016111611

Hi everyone. I am in this business! it is very simple really. For many years I have driven a duel gas/petrol or diesel (one or the other)car. It is comforting to know that I always have a back up of fuel supply, either way.

generally, if I am just driving around the city, I will use the gas and only maintain about half a tank of diesel. But when on a long trip, I fill up with both! I did save by using gas. it worked out that I got my initial gas installation costs back after about 8 months. But of course, this time will depend on the owners usage.

This included the federal Government's rebate for the gas conversion.

I found no difference in the cars power.

Many of my friends who have trucking businesses, both long and short haul, found the same results!

need diesel to Natural gas conversion info. 7.3 L international

I have 2 21hp 3 cylinder and 1 28hp 3 cylinder Kubota diesel engines. I want to run them on Natural gas or LP what can I do and is there conversion kits for these machines?
