The next generation of wireless technology is being pushed along by the automobile, writes Tony Scott, of WirelessNewsFactor.com. We've had mobile phones and other wireless stuff for a while now, but the automobile could propel us into the next generation of wireless technologies, offering us true mobility, Scott argues.
The public, says Scott, may be slow to take on this new wireless world, but the mass adoption of wireless technologies such as RFID (Radio Frequency Identification tags) for electronic toll roads, digital satellite radio and high-speed internet connections for automobiles will get us hooked, he reckons.
The mass-produced automobile offers a convenient medium to propagate these new technologies at low cost, then once we get used to being plugged in on the move in our cars we'll want the same connectivity in our pockets.
