At a truck stop in Oklahoma, truck drivers talk about getting loads to fill their trailers for another run. Lately, the talk has been good, with most of the drivers noticing an upswing in business, and far less time spent waiting around to find the next load. According to an article in the New York Times , drivers are seeing the results of increased demand for their services. One truck owner operator, Jim Baertschi, said that "for the last two years, we had 50 laid off. They've all been called back. In fact, they want to hire more." Citing American Trucking Associations' figures, the Times said that trucks haul 67% of domestic freight in the U.S. by weight and 87% by value.
