More than 10,000 policy makers, administrators, practitioners, researchers, and representatives of government, industry, and academic institutions are expected at the Annual Meeting of the U.S. Transportation Research Board in Washington on January 11-15.

The TRB Annual Meeting program covers all transportation modes, with more than 3,000 presentations in nearly 600 sessions. The spotlight theme for 2009 is Transportation, Energy, and Climate Change.

Amongst the sessions freight systems will be one on Truck Drivers, Congestion, and Carbon Footprints (Monday, January 12, 2009, 3:45 PM - 5:30 PM). This will include topics such as truck driver perceptions about congestion and tolls, training heavy vehicle drivers to reduce fuel consumption, and truck management strategies.

TRB is a division of the National Academies, which include the National Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Engineering, Institute of Medicine, and the National Research Council. These are regarded in the U.S. and world wide as sources of independent and objective advice on transportation issues.

The annual meeting takes place at three Connecticut Avenue hotels close to the downtown Washington D. C core.
