Windows users who use Norton Antivirus sometimes experience the following error when they click Internet Explorer 7 (IE7):
“The unknown exception software exception (oxoeedfade) occurred in the application at location 0x7c812a5b.”
Upon closing the error box, the below-mentioned error message appears on the screen:
“runtime error 217 0298f48e”
Cause
It is seen that this error occurs only when a particular add-0n, Norton confidential helper, is turned on.
Solution
Disabling the Norton confidential helper add-on fixes the problem. To do so, perform the steps below:
- Open IE
- Click Tools
- Click Internet Options
- Click Programs in the Internet dialog box
- Click Manage add-ons
- Browse through the list and select the Norton Confidential helper add-on
- Click the Disable button
- Launch IE again
