One of the more common issues faced by Windows 10 users is with the Sleep Mode function. Many users have complained of their PC being unable to go into Sleep Mode after upgrading to Windows 10. Below are some solutions that can resolve the Sleep Mode issue.
Solution 1- Checking Sleep Mode settings
- Click the Start button – > Select Settings
- Click System
- Click “Power & Sleep”
- Ensure the Sleep Settings has the desired values. For example, none of the Sleep Settings Values should be “Never”
- Click “Additional Power Settings”
- Click on Change Plan Settings
- Click Change Advanced Power Settings
- In the Power Options Screen, expand the Multimedia Settings
- Expand the option -> When sharing media and select “Allow the computer to sleep”
- Click Apply
- Click Ok
In most cases changing the Power Settings will resolve the Sleep Mode issue in Windows 10. If it doesn’t then you need to take a closer look at the Power Settings to see what is preventing Windows 10 from entering into sleep mode.
Solution 2 – Change Network adapter settings
You need to ensure the network adapter settings are not preventing your Windows 10 system from entering Sleep mode. Here are the steps you should follow.
- Click the Start button on the Desktop
- In Search box, type “Device Manager”
- Select Device Manager from the list of search results
- Go to Network Adapter
- Click “>” to expand the list
- Right Click on Network Adapter and select Properties
- In the Network Adapter properties window, go to the Power Management tab
- Uncheck the box “Allow this device to wake the computer”
- Click OK
If the above solution does not work, you will need to log into Safe Mode and see if the Sleep Mode issue persists. Here are the steps to boot Windows 10 system into Safe Mode
- Click the Start button on the Desktop
- Click Settings
- Click Update & Security -> Recovery
- Under Advanced Startup, click Restart Now
- After the PC restarts, you will get a few options on the screen, select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart
- After your PC restarts, Press F4 to start your PC in Safe Mode
- Try to recreate the issue and see if the system is able to enter into Sleep mode
- Try unplugging all USB devices and see if this resolves the issue
