It is not uncommon for users to experience WiFi connectivity issues after upgrading to Windows 8.1. We are going to discuss some common WiFi connectivity problems and their solutions. Some of the common WiFi connectivity errors are:
- The WiFi connection is limited
- This connection has limited or no connectivity. No internet access
Use the Troubleshooter to fix WiFi problems
This is the most straightforward way to fix this issue. To open the Troubleshooter, follow the steps set out below:
- Hover your mouse on the upper-right or lower-right corner of the screen and when the Charms bar appears, click on Search
- Type Troubleshooting in search box
- Click on the first option you get in search results
- In the next window, click Network and Internet
- You will see different options to fix the wireless connectivity issues, you need to run- Internet Connections and Network Adapter
- Follow the on-screen instructions to fix the issue
If the Troubleshooter does not resolve the issue, reset the TCP/IP by following the steps set out below:
Reset TCP/IP
- Open the Charms bar and type command prompt in the Search box
- Right-click on command prompt in search results and select Run as administrator
- At the command prompt, type the following commands
- netsh winsock reset catalog
- netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt
If the above troubleshooting method temporarily solves your problem, it generally means your WiFi adapter is entering Sleep Mode frequently in order to save Power. You need to change some settings to permanently resolve the issue. Follow the steps below to wake up the network adapter
Wake up Network Adapter
- Press Windows key + w to bring up Setting search box
- Type network and sharing center
- Click on your WiFi network and select Properties
- In WiFi properties window, click Configure
- Go to the Power Management listed last in row
- Uncheck the option – Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power
- Click OK
Some users report the WiFi option is grayed out or disabled. To resolve this, do the following:
Fix WiFi option grayed out or disabled
- Click on the network icon in the taskbar
- Select Open Network and Sharing center
- Find the Wireless connection and click on Blue link
- A new dialog box will pop up, click Diagnose
- Follow the on-screen instructions to resolve the issue
