Normally when the Volume icon disappears from the system tray or toolbar, you can get it back by selecting the relevant option in the taskbar and start menu properties screen /Notification area. However, sometimes this option can be disabled. When this happens, you can take the steps mentioned below to get the Volume icon back.
- Right-click the taskbar
- Click task manager to open its corresponding window
- Click the Processes tab
- Locate and select ‘EXPLORER.EXE’, and then click the End Task button located at the bottom. This will cause your taskbar to disappear. Don’t worry about it as you are just three steps away from getting the Volume icon back
- Click the Applications tab in the Windows Task Manager window
- Click the New Task button located at the bottom right-hand side
- Type ‘EXPLORER.EXE’ in the box next to Open in the Create New Task dialog box, and then click the OK button
Your taskbar and the Volume icon should now appear again.
While many believe this issue occurs due to virus infection, this is not the case. Nevertheless, virus infection can lead to many serious errors and so should be prevented at all costs. The best way of keeping your PC safe is by running regular virus scan on it using an advanced antivirus tool.
