Realsched.exe is associated with RealPlayer. This process, also known as RealNetworks application scheduler, is responsible for handling automatic updates as well as update notifications. While an important process, it has been regularly criticized by RealPlayer users for using too much CPU resource both when Windows starts and when Windows is running.
By default this process loads with Windows. If it is slowing the boot process, you can prevent it from starting automatically every time you start your Windows computer.
To remove realsched.exe from startup, complete the following two steps.
Turn off Message Centre
- Locate and click the icon of RealPlayer on the desktop or taskbar
- Click Tools>Preferences>Message Centre>Configure Message Centre
- Deselect all the items that appear in the list
- Save your changes, and close RealPlayer
- Restart your computer
Remove realsched.exe from startup
- Click the Windows icon
- Type msconfig.exe in the Start Search Box, and press Enter
- Click Startup
- Locate and deselect the checkbox before realsched.exe
- Click Apply
- Click OK
- Click Restart (this will restart your computer) or Exit without restart in the System Configuration dialog box that appears on your screen next
Fix high CPU issue associated with realsched.exe
If realsched.exe is constantly causing Windows to freeze up, it is best that you remove it once and for all from your computer (Remember that you will not be able to enjoy the functionalities that this process offers. Its removal, however, will not stop RealPlayer from loading and playing audios and videos).
To remove it, perform these steps:
Terminate realsched.exe
- Open Task Manager
- Select reaslched.exe
- Click End Process
Delete registry entries related to it
Important: We recommend you make a backup of your registry before making any changes to it. The easiest and perhaps the most effective way of backing registry is by using a reliable registry maintenance software application.
- Click the Windows icon
- Type run in the Start Search box
- Type regedit in the Run dialog box, and click OK
- Click Edit in the Registry Editor window, and then Find Next
- Type realsched.exe in the box that appears next to Find what, and click Find Next
- Delete the entries related to realsched.exe that comes up
- Close the Registry Editor window after you’ve deleted all entries related to this file
Delete this file
- Open My Computer and go to C:Program FilesCommon FilesRealUpdate_OB
- Delete this exe file
