Are you unable to access your wireless network and getting the “Problem with wireless adapter or access point” error when you run Windows Network Diagnostics?
The “problem with wireless adapter or access point” error is actually easy to fix — and we will show you how to go about it.
Shared in this post are two easy yet effective solutions. So let’s dive right in.
Solution 1 – Delete Your Wireless Profile
You can get the wireless adapter error if your WiFi configuration profile is corrupt. Thankfully, deleting the corrupt wireless profile and then reconnecting the wireless network does the trick.
You can remove the corrupt wireless profile in two ways, both of which are discussed here.
First Method – Use the network list
Here are the steps to follow.
- In your Windows taskbar, click Wi-Fi icon
- Then right-click the network to which your computer is trying to connect and click Forget
- Reboot Windows and then try reconnecting the wireless network. Check whether you’re able to access the net or not
Second Method – Use command prompt
Here are the steps to follow.
- In the Start menu, type cmd. Now right click command prompt in the results and choose Run as administrator
- In the command prompt, run the command shown below. In place of “wireless profile name” simply put the actual name of your wireless profile. Then press Enter
- Reboot Windows. Try reconnecting the wireless network. Check whether you’re able to access the net or not
Solution 2 – Update the wireless driver
You can update the wireless network adapter driver manually or automatically. The second method is more convenient and accurate. And the best part is you don’t require any technical knowledge for it, either.
However, we’ve listed the steps for both the methods. You can pick which you like more.
Update wireless driver manually
Here are the steps to follow.
- Press Windows logo key + R together to bring up the Run command
- In Run command, type devmgmt.msc and click OK
- In the Device Manager, double-click Network adapters. Right-click your wireless adapter and then click Update Driver Software.
- In the next window, select Search automatically for updated driver software.
- Windows will search the internet to find a driver update and install it.
- Restart Windows and check if you are able to connect to internet now
It is possible that Windows might not be able to locate the right driver automatically. In that case you will have to manually download the latest wireless driver and install it.
Here are the steps to follow.
- Write down the name of your wireless adapter (as shown in the Device Manager window)
- Open the Internet and go to the wireless adapter manufacturer website. Look for the latest driver for your wireless adapter. Make sure you download the driver file corresponds to your PC type. For instance, if you use Windows 10 32-bit, driver file should be for 32-bit PCs
- Now download the driver file and save it in the desired location
- Once the download is complete, navigate to the location where the file is saved, and double-click the file
- Follow onscreen prompts (if any)
- Once the driver is installed, you might be asked to restart Windows. Do that and check if the issue is fixed
