Many Xbox users aren’t sure about how to connect Xbox One Controller when the console is not syncing. Unless the Xbox One Controller is connected to console, you cannot play games. While this issue is annoying, you can fix it easily—and we will show you how to do that.

Solution One – Check the status of Xbox One Controller
You need to ensure the basic conditions needed to connect the Xbox One Controller to console are fulfilled. Here are some things to watch for:
- The Xbox controller should be on to establish connection with the console. The power saving feature in Xbox One Controller switches off the device automatically after 15 minutes of inactivity. Check the power lights on controller and see if they are on.
- The Xbox One Controller connects wirelessly with the console and it should be close enough for detection. The range for Xbox One Controller is around 19-28 ft. The range may get reduced due to interferences or if the Xbox One Controller unit is in the cabinet. Make sure the Xbox One Controller in in front of console when establishing the connection.
- Check the space between Xbox One Controller and console for things that might interfere with the wireless connection. For example, laptops, microwave oven, wireless routers, cordless phones, shelves, doors, metal dividers, and so on. If you find anything mentioned above, remove them.

Solution Two- Restart the Xbox console

Press the Xbox button to open the guide and then select System -> Settings -> Power & startup ->Turn off or restart -> Restart now.
Solution Three- Power Recycle your Xbox console
Since restarting Xbox console has not worked for you, can try power recycling the Xbox console which has helped many users to resolve the connecting issue. Here are the steps to follow.
- Press and hold the power button on the front of the console for 10 seconds until the device shuts down.
- Press the power button to turn on the console

Solution Four- Re-sync your Xbox One Controller
Some users were able to resolve the connection issue by re-syncing the Xbox One Controller.

- Press the connect button on your console
Note – On the Xbox S, the connect button is in the form of small circular button located at the front of the console. On other versions of Xbox, the connect button is located on the side around the corner from the disc tray
- Now press and hold the connect button on the back of the Xbox One Controller till the Xbox button flashes. Release the connect button when you see Xbox button light stabilizes to a solid light (no flashing). It means the Xbox One Controller has been re-synced.

Solution Five- Update Xbox One Controller software
The connecting issue may also occur if the controller software is outdated. Updating controller software is the solution to resolve the connection issue. Here are the steps to follow.
- Connect Xbox One Controller to console with a USB cable
- Sign into Xbox live
- On your controller, press Menu button and then select Settings
- Next select Devices & accessories
- Select your Xbox One Controller
- Select Update
- Select Continue
- Wait for the updating process to complete. Try to connect the Xbox One Controller to console to see if the connection issue is resolved.
In most cases, you should be able to connect the Xbox one controller to the console.
