If you use a VPN dialer (Cisco Systems), try this method.
Users find that they can no longer use Fast User Switching after they have installed Cisco VPN dialer. Further, every time a users tries to enable the former, an error message stating that this file has disabled two default features, Windows Welcome Screen & Fast User Switching, is received.
This error occurs because the VPN dialer from Cisco replaces the msgina.dll with its own dll file, csgina.dll. Msgina.dll is Microsoft Graphical Identification and Authentication file, and its removal lead to switching off of Fast User Switching feature.
To fix the issue, open Windows registry and do the following:
- Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionWinlogon
- Look for GinaDLL in the right window and delete it
- Close registry editor
- Open Windows built-in uninstaller, Add or Remove Programs
- Select and uninstall your VPN dialer (Cisco Systems)
- Restart Windows
The above steps allow you to get rid of the listed error once and for all. If, for some reasons, you are unable to troubleshoot csgina.dll error using these steps, we recommend you contact Microsoft Support.
