You try to connect your Windows 8 laptop to the Internet, but it doesn’t connect and returns the following error instead:
Error 651: The Modem (or other connecting device) has reported an error.
Cause
This error usually occurs because of some problem with the ISDN device driver.
Solution
The error, if it is due to ISDN device driver, can be easily resolved by updating the ISDN driver. However before you do that, we recommend you to ensure that the wireless is switched on. If you have done that, or if it is already on, but you still get the error, install the latest version of your ISDN device driver.
To do this, download the latest Windows updates and check if it contains an update for your ISDN device driver. If it does, install it. In case it doesn’t, install the latest ISDN device driver manually or use a driver update tool for this purpose. The latter, it must be said, is a more efficient, quick, and reliable way of updating device drivers, including the ISDN driver.
Error 651 is most likely to go away after you install the latest ISDN device driver.

This is always the “solution” and always equally ludicrous. If I cannot connect to the internet, I cannot download anything, can I? Jeepers.
DriversExpert says
Hi Celia – you can connect via another PC/ laptop and download the drivers to an external hard-drive or USB key – then transfer them to the PC with the connection problem.

If you do happen to come across this reply, i hope you can help, i have been searching like crazy for that driver, and i have found three viruses and Microsoft has been NO help at all….
Kimberlie says
Windows 8 sucks!!! It seems to me, you are trying to mimic iMac!!! If I wanted an iMac, I would buy one!!! I am going back to windows 7 or vista! At least they had stable operating systems!!!
Gloria says
I agree with Celia–it is really stupid of them to suggest to download the latest windows update or the driver update software and Error 651 is NO CONNECTION TO THE INTERNET PROBLEM!!! I could not download driverscom software onto a disc and put it in the problem computer–it says there is nothing on the disc on that computer but on my good laptop with Windows Vista it shows it on the disc!!
Also agree with Kimberlie–Windows 8 completely SUCKS!!! Brand New HP computer that all of a sudden doesn’t work 1 month later because we took it somewhere and disconnected from our home WiFi. I have tried EVERYTHING and cant get it to connect to Internet–why the hell would the ISDN driver already need updated!!!

I appreciate the details on your website. Thanks for your time!

What’s this all about?? !!
ISDN was phased out years ago and we all use broadband with ADSL.
The advice is incomprehensible.
DriversExpert says
While ISDN is no longer used to a great extent in many developed parts of the world, there are still some less technically developed regions where ISDN and other modem-based connections are still the norm

Window 8 is a big fat joke. Awful. Sorry but most of us don’t HAVE another computer to install the driver from. No help AT all

Hi Dan – you could try running a manual restore:
1. When you start your PC – login as administrator.
2. Click Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools, then click System Restore.
3) Select “Restore my computer to an earlier time” and click Next.
4) From “On this list, click a restore point”, select a system restore point before your problems started, click Next.
5) On the confirmation window, click Next.
6) When the restoration is finished, reboot your PC

My Asus X200CA could not connect to my network nor the internet.
As it turns out, after trying many other suggested approaches, it was doing the system restore that solve my problem.
Thank you.

What if you don’t have another PC or laptop to download this driver?
