There are many reasons why a Touchpad-related issue might occur following an upgrade to Windows 10. If you are thinking of reverting back to Windows 8.1, first try the solutions set out below:
But before you follow these steps, ensure the Touchpad is enabled. To do so, follow these steps:
- Click Start > Settings
- Go to Devices > Mouse & Touchpad
- Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and select Additional mouse options
- In the Mouse Properties window, click on the last tab called Device Settings or ELAN
- Under Devices, ensure the Touchpad is not disabled
- If it is disabled, select Touchpad device and click Enable
If the Touchpad is enabled and still it does not work as intended, you need to update the device driver manually. Below are the steps you need to follow:
- Click the Start button on the desktop
- Type Device Manager in the Search box
- Click Device Manager from the list of search results
- In the Device Manager window, go to Mice and Other pointing devices
- Click > to expand the list and right-click on Touchpad device
- Select Update Driver Software
- The operating system will now search the Internet for updated device Drivers
If the operating system is not able to search for Drivers automatically, you need to go to laptop manufacturer’s website and download the latest drivers from the website.
Before installing the latest Drivers, you need to uninstall any old device drivers. To uninstall Touchpad Drivers, follow the steps set out below:
- Open Device Manager
- Go to go to Mice and Other pointing devices
- Right-click on Touchpad device
- Select Uninstall
- Close the Device Manger
- Install the latest Touchpad Drivers downloaded from the laptop manufacturers website
- Restart your laptop
Touchpad stopped working in Asus laptop after Windows 10 upgrade
Many Asus laptop users have complained about Touchpad not working after upgrading to Windows 10. If you are facing the same problem, here are the steps you need to follow:
- Go to the Asus laptop website and download the latest version of Smart Gesture
- If you already have this version installed, you need to repair the installation by following the steps below:
- Go to Settings >Control panel > Uninstall/Change program > Asus Smart Gesture > Repair
The above actions should solve your Touchpad issues.
- If the problem is not solved, Asus recommends users to download latest ATK driver from their website.
- Reinstall the ATK driver and then reinstall the Touchpad driver
