Windows 7 Drivers – Step-By-Step Fix >>
Windows 7, while providing a definite improvement over Windows Vista, was not without its’ problems. This article looks at Windows 7 Drivers problems in particular.
Common Windows 7 Drivers Problems
If you have just upgraded to Windows 7, or have been using Windows 7 and have discovered a problem with one of your devices, you may need to download Windows 7 drivers updates for some of your hardware devices (printer, modem, sound, bluetooth etc.)
Upgrading from Windows Vista to Windows 7 is relatively seamless when compared to upgrading from Windows XP to Windows 7. In the case of the latter, you are like to come across numerous Drivers issues. This is due to the fact that the differences between the XP and Windows 7 Operating Systems, are far greater than between Windows Vista and Windows 7. When you experience problems with Windows 7 Drivers, it is because the Device Drivers are looking for code in the Operating System that may no longer exist after the upgrade.
If you know the specific device that is causing the problem, then you can download Driver updates form the manufacturers’ website. If you need to download/ update multiple Drivers, then you may be better off using a trusted driver update tool. There is a registration fee for such tools but you will receive automatic Driver updates for the entire time you are registered so this can save a lot of time and hassle.
Cannot find DVD drive
This is one of the more common issues experienced with Windows 7, it is sometimes, but not always, a driver issue.
One solution to try is as follows:
- run REGEDIT
- browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
- delete UpperFilters and LowerFilters
If this doesn’t work you can try resetting the DVD drive as follows:
- Go to Start
- type Disk Management
- click on Create and format hard disk partitions
- click on the drive you wish to change
- select Change Drive Letter and Paths
- click Change and choose a new letter
Go to Windows Explorer to see if the drive is now showing, if so, go through the steps above to set is back to the original setting. Try restarting your machine if you are having issues.
