How to download & Install Gateway Drivers
There are many situations in which you may need to download and install Gateway drivers. Before we discuss how to download and install Gateway drivers, let us first take a look at the different situations that may cause driver-related issues:
- You have reformatted your Gateway netbook, notebook, or desktop but didn’t backup your drivers in a CD or DVD
- A malware infection has corrupted some of your Gateway drivers and you don’t have the original driver CD with you
- Your Gateway monitor driver is missing, corrupt, or outdated
What you need to do before you download and install the Gateway Drivers
If you have reformatted your Gateway netbook, notebook, or desktop and don’t have the original driver CD or DVD, you will need to check the types of drivers you need. Otherwise, you would need to download all the available drivers for your system.
If you need a driver for a particular Gateway device, such as the monitor, ensure that you note the model number of your hardware first. You can get this information from the Device Manager utility.
For instance, if you own a Gateway monitor and need to download a new driver for it but are not sure of its model number, you can get the necessary information doing the following:
- Open Device Manager
- Expand Monitors
- Double-click the Gateway monitor and check the information in the General tab
How to locate the right driver on Gateway’s website
- Go to http://support.gateway.com/product/default.aspx
- In the Select Your Product box, click on the correct entry under the Select Category section
- Choose the correct series in the Select Series drop-down menu
- Choose the correct model the Select Model drop-down menu
- Click the Confirm button
- Click the Download button
- Save the driver file on to your desktop or some other location
- How to install the Gateway Driver
Browse to the location where you have stored the downloaded file, and then double-click the driver file (.exe file extension) and follow the onscreen prompts. If you are asked to restart your system after the installation is complete, do so.
Get Automatic Driver Updates
Using a Driver Update Tool can be a simpler and more effective way of fixing driver-related errors. There are many advantages of using a Driver Update Tool, such as:
- Speed – searching for Drivers yourself can be time-consuming and frustrating
- Reliability – a Driver Update Tool will have a large database of Device Drivers
- Efficiency – a driver update tool should update your required Drivers (by exact-matching to your PC’s specific requirements) and will keep these Drivers up-to-date as new versions are released

I love my Gateway laptop but it’s Windows Vista and I know it has tons of things that should be updated. I don’t use it much online but I won’t get rid of it because it makes perfect greeting cards and mailing labels. (I use my new(er) laptop that has Win7 for going online.) Any suggestions? I’d like to update it myself without paying someone. I think I could do it. But at the same time, I’d like it to be done correctly. 😉 Thank you for any advice.
driverhelp says
Hi Joey – how old is the Gateway laptop? Have you checked if it is compatible for windows upgrade?
Joey says
I think I bought it in early 2007. You might remember better than I do when Vista was common. (I bought my Win7 in June 2010.) I really don’t want to “upgrade” but rather UPDATE some of the things that might make the laptop run a little better…or just safer. It wasn’t even touched for about 2 years. When I took it out to use it last week, I was sure to update the virus program and it’s going well. But there are other things…drivers and things like that that I just don’t know about. I just updated my HP Win7 laptop and it’s doing a little better, too. That’s what makes me want to update the Vista. If I can’t…it’s okay with me. Like I mentioned, it’s great for offline things like cards, etc. Thanks for your input!
DriverAdvice says
Hi Joey – you should be able to update the Drivers manually but I would advise setting a ‘restore point’ that you can revert to if it does cause problems. You can use the software in the article above to run a free drivers scan – this will tell you the Drivers you need and you can then manually search for, download and install them.

Hi Betty – the software installs and updates Drivers where required. There is also a rollback option if you want to undo an update. Did you do the Drivers Scan and then select the Drivers to install? You can use the support link within the program to get more detailed help

I have a Gateway MX6027 laptop, which I discovered no audio device was detected. It was bought in 2006 for my daughter. OS is Windows XP Home SP3.
I went to the Gateway website and as usual they do not have the MX6027 laptop listed to obtain the audio drivers.
I tried installing the Realtek AC97 drivers manually but they would not install.
Is there anything else I can do to fix this problem or is this laptop ready for the dustbin?
Thank you for your time.

I have a Gateway all in one with windows 8. When I access my e-mail or face book account it locks up on me and then have to exit explorer and enter again, this happens many times and is frustrating. Am I missing a driver or something?
DriverHelp says
What do you mean by ‘locks up’ – does the page freeze? Have you tried updating your browser – what browser/ version are you currently on?
