It doesn't have it all, but the Blackberry 8820 just introduced by Research In Motion (RIM) can put you right out in the front lines of mobile connectivity and convenience.
Approved by the U.S. Federal Communications Commission in July, the new Blackberry can switch seamlessly between your cellular providers' network and the broader ranging WiFi network. In other words, it can switch voice calls and data connections between a wireless carrier's cellular network and a Wi-Fi network depending on lowest cost and best availability at that time and location.
It’s a quad-band phone and enabled for the GSM, GPRS, and EDGE connectivity standards.
In addition to its WiFi capability, the 8820 features a thinner design than previous models and has GPS capability allied to the trackball navigation system introduced with the Pearl in Fall 2006.
With its instant messenger, web browsing capability, full qwerty keyboard, push email support, and a capability to upgrade to a 32 GB memory card, the 8820 moves ahead of the Apple iPhone in some key features. The iPhone has a maximum memory capacity of 8 GB.
With RIM's BlackBerry media player, 8820 users can play music and search by title, genre, artist or album name. Videos can be played in full-screen mode.
The 8820 doesn’t have a camera, but a new desktop media manager from Roxio claims to make it easier for users to manage media files on their desktop and automatically copy or convert pictures, music and videos for optimal playback.![]()
