U.S. President George W. Bush apparently had a grand time executing a J turn
in a Chevrolet Camaro. The point of the exercise, says the Secret Service,
was to show the president what would happen in response to various threats
such as explosives attacks or car chases. According to GlobalAutoNet Bush
spent a half-day Friday at the Secret Service's training center near the capital.
After watching some demonstrations, the president himself drove a silver 2002
Camaro through the J-turn maneuver - putting the car into reverse, accelerating
rapidly to about 40 mph, and then spinning the car 180 degrees to drive off
in the opposite direction. Bush also tried out an indoor firing range and was
driven through a simulated bomb attack in the back of an armored limousine.
The president's reaction to the driving experience: "It was a pretty exciting
feeling." ![]()
