Foiling attacks on driving examiners

A growing number of attacks on driving examiners in France has resulted in
a scheme that will create a 24 hour cooling off period for driving students
before they hear the results of their road test. According to the article on Yahoo
News, examiners have been threatened with death and rape, and their cars
have been smashed up by angry novice drivers or their friends. "Threats at
gunpoint are not rare," said transport ministry official Jean-Francois Verdier.
The 24 hour wait before learners are told whether they passed or failed has
been tested in some jurisdictions, and the Ministry may extend it to the whole
country in September. About 3.5 million driving students take the test each
year, and about two-thirds of them fail. ![]()
