SUVs to be classed as cars

Sport utility vehicles are getting their free ride cut short as the Canadian
government moves to reduce smog by reclassifying SUVs as cars. This will put
an end to the looser emissions standards that SUVs have enjoyed by being classified
as light trucks. Canada's Environment Minister said: "They have evaded the
regulations that were put in place for passenger vehicles. The (smog) contribution
from a new SUV will drop dramatically." Changes are also rumored for minivans.
According to the story on Yahoo
News , predictions are that SUVs in a few years will emit one twentieth
of the pollutants of current models.![]()
