Fake airbags a deadly problem

Fake airbags are becoming a serious problem for purchasers of used cars. In a recent expose, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) sent reporters with hidden cameras into some of the repair shops that provide the fake airbags and the covers that conceal them. The cost, they were told, is about Can$125. A new airbag could cost well over $1,000. In a car being renovated for sale, a common substitute for an airbag is Styrofoam, covered by a plastic shell. "It comes out of a can, costs a couple of dollars and you can buy it in any store... It dries to give you a hard feeling so if you pressed on this you think that there is something there, and it's Styrofoam," said one police officer.

US police believe the problem of fake airbags is huge and thousands of people are driving on North American highways with absolutely no idea their airbags are fake. read the CBC article and watch video. End of Article
